Below are some examples of the types of issues MFG Electronics, Inc. has
resolved with its customers.
Power Supply Board:
A PCB assembly with integral heat sink was returned with a blown power resistor.
The resistor was connected to a 10,000 microfarad capacitor which was subject to
very large in-rush currents at turn-on. When the assembly is tested at MFG
Electronics, Inc., the AC power supply is ramped up slowly. However, in
discussion with the customer it was learned that interim testing, before final
configuration, was performed differently leading to the blown power resistor.
Internal test procedures have been modified accordingly to eliminate this
problem.
Component Change:
One PCB assembly had a higher than normal failure rate on one particular
integrated circuit. Upon further investigation of the electrical schematic
by MFG Electronics, Inc., we were familiar with a second source to the component
in question and recommended its use as a replacement. The customer’s
engineering department reviewed and approved the request and the failure rate
for this component has dropped significantly.
Printed Circuit Board
Change: MFG Electronics, Inc. routinely provides feedback to its
customers and/or printed circuit board vendors regarding any issues we find with
the PCBs used in our builds. In most cases improvements can be made
without a relayout. In one instance, our suggestions were able to provide
such a significantly lower cost of production that the customer decided to
relayout the PCB.
